18th Annual Biothon Results!

The results are in from this year’s 18th annual Biothon!

16 teams, including 6 youth outings, headed out across the Valley to count species during our two Biothon weekends in May and June. Favorite public sites included Mt. Toby in Leverett, the Silvio O. Conte Refuge in Hadley, and Skinner State Park in South Hadley, along with more private sites like Applewood at Amherst, a family-owned 6 acre parcel in South Amherst, and the school grounds of Fort River and Pelham Elementary.

Our Biothon team members counted 563 species (including 11 different ants!), helping to document our region’s biodiversity, celebrate the return of spring, and raise over $13,100 for our year-round education programs.

The winning team for Most Species Found was the powerhouse trio of Elizabeth Farnsworth, Nancy Goodman, and Martha Hoopes — they identified 226 species at Lithia Springs in Granby!

Our top fundraisers earning the Most Dollars Raised prize collected a combined $3,819 in donations from supporters — Jaana Cutson & Dan Ziomek with the Youth Birding group, the Little Fledglings.
